Ring.... Ring..... Ring....

Ring…. Ring…. Ring…. Thank you for calling XYZ. How can I direct your call?

This is Teresa yada yada yada. I need to talk to someone regarding blah blah blah.

Sure, Joyce. Let me just get a little bit more information.

OK, but it’s Teresa. Not Joyce.

Oh – sure. Sorry about that. Now Shirley, I just need to get some more information.

Grrrr… What part of “Tuh-ree-suh” am I saying that even remotely sounds like Joyce or Shirley? I could see people hearing “Tracey” because I do have a bit of an accent and I may say my name kind of fast, but Joyce or Shirley? No way…

Look at it this way - at least you spoke to a HUMAN. Don't you hate when you get: Press 1 to hear English. If you are calling about blah, blah, blah, press 2. Press 3, 4, 5, a million for this or that!

You'd think "Pat" would be simple enough to understand, but I must have some kind of accent, also, and many times I have to repeat it. Maybe I should say, "My name is Pat, rhymes with Cat" or something like that!

I find myself speaking very slowly and distinctly to those on the phone.... Apparently they are told to use your name to make you feel that they are taking you seriously. I guess they should tell those that can't remember the name that it would be better to leave it off. But, you actually talked to someone who speaks English......impressive!
