Insurance says that they still consider the device a "hearing aid" and, as such, will be paid at the benefit rate of other hearing aids... $600 per ear, every three years.
{sigh} I explained that it would be SCREWED to my skull and that it does not conduct sound through the air but sound waves via bone conduction. I explained that Medicare FULLY funds it and has revised what they consider as a true hearing aid. I explained that Medicaid FULLY funds it.
So, old people and poor people can hear again, but a working-class stiff can just be deaf.
Bat rastards...
I'm not giving up yet, though. I've got some feelers out there trying to come up with a different code or something to get past this $600 limit.
Good news though... If I do end up getting the surgery, they will do general anesthesia.
Yay...

Aint' that the way of the good ol' USA? Screw the working class? Sure seems that way.
Hey Barb it is not just the USA that screws the working stiffs same can be said about us here..........I am in the progress of getting a bit of dental work done only because I am diabetic and at the moment the government is willing to fork out the cost up till $4000 so I am getting it done while I do not have to pay for it.......generally I can not afford to go to the dentist.
I really hope you can get around that $600 grap that is just bullshit maybe if some the people who make these decisions where affected like you are then they wouldn't apply such stupid limits.
I am so mad now I just want to hit someone.........
Sorry to hear that Tee - keep going up the ladder until you find someone that can okay it.
Or better have your doctor explain it to the insurance company. I know when I needed extra time in the hospital with Squirrel my doctor called the insurance company to explain and they approved 2 more days - which they had previously turned down when hubs had called.
Hi Teresa - I do hope that you get this sorted out soon. Thinking of you and sending hugs.
So sorry to hear that they will not cover it. i hope you find a way to get it.
I have something for you at my blog :D
