I could puke...

Just got the insurance statements for the preliminary "leg" stuff. After insurance on what has been billed, our share is nearly $1,000. This is so not good. I'm just sick.

This isn't even for the permanent leg. The bill (so far) is right at $6,100.

I'm just sick. Totally.

I'm so sorry...that is outrageous. Wish you live closer so I could hook you up with my guy, he's amazing and takes insurance as full payment. Bless you.

Have you checked with the hospital to see if you qualify for any programs they offer? Some hospitals will simply write it off if you are unable to make payment. I live in fear of a hospital stay as we currently have no insurance. Our doctor is fantastic and keeps his fees as low as possible.

as long as you make a good faith effort...payments as you can, I am sure they will work with you. necessary things just have to be done...regardless of cost, ugh. it'll work out. somehow. thinking of you both..our prayers are with you. hugs, V.

Kathy and Spillman make very good points. Look what they did for us [70 dollars a month until I am OLD] but it will get paid.

Try talking to the hospital. At least it isn't the whole bill, right?

Take care sweetie.

Did you ever hear of a patient advocate? They fight to help a patient pay for their hospital and doctor bills. I'm not sure where you would find one, though.

My sister helped her friend out who was dying from cancer. She wrote letters to all of the doctors and hospitals involved in her care; told them her friend's story of how she was suffering and how the family didn't have any money, and the majority of doctors and the hospital either accepted what the insurance covered and wrote off the rest, OR lowered the bill so it was feasible. This is worth a try.

Deep breaths. Pay it in small doses and don't fret it. Just call billing and explain to them--in my experience that always goes well. They generally ask "What payments would you like to make?" and then you can set your own amount and schedule.
